Eric Charles Mutum was born in Brandon (Thetford Q1-1917 4B:485), son of Alfred and Alice Amelia MUTUM (née HOGGER),
The family moved to Felixstowe in 1935, where he carried on his duties in the Baptist Church and Boys Brigade.
In the 1939 register, at Tower View, Spriteshall Lane, Trimley St Mary's, Felixstowe, were his father Alfred [12-1-1983] a bread baker and confectioner, and his mother Alice [28-7-1885]. There is one closed record. |

Eric was originally buried in Bir Enba Military Cemetery (B:7) but this cemetery was closed and concentrated to Halfaya Sollum in 1944. Bir Enba was south of Sidi Barrani (half way between Tobruk and Marsa Matruh), a 20 mile gap in the Italian defences. The local press in September :- Eric Charles Mutum R.A.S.C. was reported as having died from wounds while serving in the Middle East. He was one of three brothers serving in the Forces and at the age of 24 he had joined the Royal Army Service Corps in April 1940. Three months later he left for the Middle East. He is a Brandon lad, although his family have moved to Felixstowe. |
